Abstract

The Hai Yen – Binh Hung Special Zone is a national historical site of exceptional significance to Ca Mau province, marking one of the harsh military-political models during the war in South Vietnam. Based on an interdisciplinary approach combining history, memory studies, heritage education, and peace education, this article analyzes the value of the Hai Yen – Binh Hung Special Zone from three perspectives: evidence of war crimes, a space of memory and commemoration, and a site for patriotism education, honoring sacrifice, and fostering peace-loving consciousness. The article moves beyond a sorrow-centered narrative toward an evidence-based interpretive model capable of fostering historical awareness, civic responsibility, and humanistic values.
