Abstract

This study examines the current status of lesson plan design competence for developing pupils’ qualities and competencies among primary education students at Tay Nguyen University. The research employed document analysis, a questionnaire survey of 153 students, in-depth interviews with 10 students, and analysis of student-designed lesson plans. The findings indicate that participants had a relatively positive awareness of the role of competency-based lesson planning. However, their practical competence remained at an average level, particularly in formulating observable and assessable learning objectives, adapting learning activities to mountainous and ethnic minority contexts, selecting appropriate learning materials, and designing assessment tools. The study provides evidence for improving teacher education and strengthening professional competence development for prospective primary school teachers.
