Abstract

Currently, the higher education landscape is undergoing profound changes, making the development of students’ learning and research capabilities, critical thinking, and professional competencies increasingly urgent. This article focuses on analyzing Theme in Vietnamese from the perspective of Systemic Functional Grammar (SFG), while also clarifying the role of contrastive language teaching in enhancing students’ academic language proficiency and professional competence. In this study, we employed a learner survey method combined with linguistic analysis to collect descriptive and comparative statistical charts, from which representative findings were selected to visualize students’ perceptions of the practical value of this knowledge for learning and research. The results indicate that an SFG-based approach to Theme helps students improve discourse organization, academic reading and writing, and the effective use of language in multilingual professional environments.
