Abstract

Saysettha (Xaysetha) District in Vientiane Capital, Lao PDR, is home to numerous significant historical and cultural heritage sites associated with the formation and development of the Lao nation. Prominent examples include Theravada Buddhist monuments such as Pha That Luang, Wat That Luang Tai, Wat Phonxay, and Wat Nongbone, which embody important historical, architectural, cultural, and religious values. Based on documentary research, this article examines these heritage sites in relation to traditional rituals and identifies major challenges to their conservation amid rapid urbanization. The findings emphasize the importance of preserving and promoting historical and cultural heritage as a means of safeguarding local identity and supporting the sustainable development of Vientiane Capital.
