Abstract

In the learning process—especially in language acquisition—motivation plays a pivotal role in determining a learner’s success or failure. Numerous studies have affirmed that with strong motivation, learners are capable of overcoming most challenges and obstacles in their educational journey. However, enhancing learning motivation among university students in general, and those at Hanoi University of Science and Technology (HUST) in particular, remains a complex and unresolved issue despite the availability of various proposed methods. In response to this need, this article provides an overview of the concept of learning motivation and its role in language learning, followed by several effective strategies to foster motivation among students. It is hoped that the insights shared will contribute to improving students’ motivation not only in their current academic performance but also throughout their long-term learning and professional development.
