Abstract

This paper presents the findings of a survey involving 76 parents of children aged 24–36 months in Ho Chi Minh City, examining their awareness of interactive book reading, perceptions of its role, frequency and practices of reading with their children, and difficulties encountered during implementation. Based on the identified realities, the study proposes five measures to guide parents in conducting interactive book reading to foster language development in children aged 24–36 months: (1) guiding parents to self-assess their child’s language abilities using a rating-scale checklist; (2) designing informational leaflets on interactive book reading; (3) organizing a training event entitled “Interactive Book Reading Day with Your Child”; (4) developing instructional and demonstrative videos illustrating effective reading techniques; and (5) encouraging parents to share their experiences and outcomes in implementing interactive book reading. These measures aim to enhance parental engagement and contribute to early language development in young children.
