Abstract

Chinese characters constitute a complex logographic writing system and are considered a major challenge for learners of Chinese as a foreign language. Based on surveys of lecturers and students and an analysis of 360 Chinese writing samples produced by full-time students at the People's Police Academy, this study investigates Chinese character errors in writing. The findings reveal that these errors mainly stem from an insufficient understanding of character structure, limited writing practice, and overreliance on pinyin input methods. The study proposes several pedagogical measures to reduce character errors and improve the effectiveness of Chinese character instruction and students’ writing proficiency.
