Abstract

Competency-based learning is a teaching approach that relies on learners’ existing competencies and, on that foundation, develops new competencies aligned with expected learning outcomes. This ensures that teaching meets the goals and requirements of the training program as well as social and professional demands. Active teaching methods for Maritime Engineering students within a competency-oriented framework include problem-solving instruction, practical learning, blended learning, and project-based learning. In the context of the strong influence of the Fourth Industrial Revolution and digital transformation at Vietnam Maritime University, implementing competency-based teaching methods has created opportunities for Maritime Engineering students to experience both face-to-face and online learning environments.
