Abstract
Promoting democracy and ensuring the people’s right to participation in all areas of life is a fundamental principle of Vietnam’s socialist regime. After 39 years of national renewal, the Communist Party of Vietnam has developed a deeper understanding of democracy, increasingly affi rming the vital role of the people in building and safeguarding the socialist Fatherland. Based on the realities of democratic practice in Vietnam today, this article proposes several solutions to enhance its eff ectiveness and further promote the people’s role as true agents of social governance.
