Abstract

On 26 November 2025, Viet Nam’s 15th National Assembly adopted the Law on Extradition (Law No. 100/2025/ QH15), establishing a unified, dedicated legal framework for extradition between Viet Nam and other countries. The Law addresses the need to prevent and combat transnational crime and to fulfill international commitments under the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime (UNTOC). Together with three other specialized laws adopted at the same session, it replaced the 2007 Law on Mutual Legal Assistance. It sets out comprehensive provisions on the principles, conditions, competent authorities, and procedures governing extradition. This article analyzes the Law’s key provisions and highlights its role in enhancing the effectiveness of international judicial cooperation and protecting human rights.
