Abstract
The article analyzes the current situation of domestic violence in Vietnam, with a particular focus on gender- based violence, including its common forms such as physical, sexual, psychological, and financial abuse. Key contributing factors identified include family conflicts, economic hardship, alcohol/drug addiction, and social prejudices. Statistical data from 2019-2023 shows a declining trend in reported cases, though many incidents remain underreported, with a notably high proportion of women experiencing violence from husbands or intimate partners. Legally, Article 185 of the 2015 Penal Code stipulates punishments for mistreatment of family members, ranging from warnings to imprisonment, along with educational and supervisory measures. To address this issue, the article proposes comprehensive solutions including community awareness campaigns, enhanced victim support services, and stricter legal sanctions, aiming to reduce domestic violence, protect victims, and foster safe and harmonious family environments.
