Abstract
Buddhism has a long history in Vietnam and has exerted an enduring and profound influence on the cultural, ethical, and spiritual life of the Vietnamese people. Throughout the nation’s history, Buddhism has remained closely connected with society, affirming its role as a socially engaged religion that accompanies the nation. This article examines the contributions of Buddhism to strengthening social consensus in contemporary Vietnam across three main dimensions: educating people and promoting positive ethical values; cooperating with and supporting the State in improving social welfare; and contributing to the consolidation of national unity. Through these contributions, Buddhism helps mitigate the adverse effects of the market economy, reinforce the ethical foundations of society, and promote the harmonious, stable, and sustainable development of the country.
