Abstract

Great national unity is a fundamental, consistent, and enduring element of the Communist Party of Vietnam’s political line, providing a powerful source of combined strength for the revolutionary cause. Democracy is both the nature and the driving force of Vietnam’s socialist regime. Promoting democracy to strengthen national unity, and strengthening national unity to advance democracy, are therefore essential tasks for the Vietnamese revolution in any period. This article clarifies the relationship between democracy and great national unity and analyzes the content and role of promoting democracy in building great national unity in Vietnam today.
