Abstract

Based on survey data collected from 300 household representatives in Bac Giang, Lam Dong, and Can Tho, this article examines rural residents’ participation in cultural activities. The findings indicate that cultural engagement occurs primarily within families and through mass media, whereas direct participation in cultural performances, creative activities, and community cultural institutions remains limited. Nearly 90% of respondents reported participating in traditional festivals, although participation levels varied according to certain social characteristics and survey locations. The article recommends reforming the operation of grassroots cultural institutions to better address residents’ practical needs and expanding opportunities for rural residents to participate in cultural practices and creative activities.
