Abstract

This study investigates the translation of English terminology in fine arts into Vietnamese, drawing on key theoretical frameworks in translation studies, particularly equivalence theory, the Communicative Theory of Terminology, and classifications of cultural translation strategies. The findings indicate that English terminology in fine arts is not only domain-specific but also strongly influenced by abstract artistic concepts, cultural factors, and aesthetic expression. Furthermore, translation shifts occur systematically across three principal categories: technical and material terms, conceptual and stylistic terms, and aesthetic and evaluative terms. Based on these findings, the study offers pedagogical recommendations for teaching English for Specific Purposes in fine arts, emphasizing the development of visual literacy and contrastive translation awareness among learners.
