Abstract

Developing cooperative skills among children aged 5–6 is an important objective of contemporary early childhood education, and movement games are considered an appropriate and effective means of achieving this objective. This study examines current practices in organizing movement games to develop cooperative skills among preschool children aged 5–6 at preschools in Tan Binh Ward, Ho Chi Minh City, and proposes measures to enhance the effectiveness of these activities. Data were collected through questionnaires administered to 115 preschool teachers, including nine educational administrators, observations of 13 groups of children, and interviews. The data were analyzed using SPSS 27. The findings indicate that teachers have devoted attention to organizing movement games; however, the integration of cooperative-skill development objectives into these games remains inconsistent. Many activities provide limited opportunities for children to coordinate their actions, assign responsibilities, support one another, and work toward shared goals. Based on these findings, the study proposes several measures to improve the organization of movement games, thereby contributing to the development of cooperative skills among preschool children aged 5–6.
