Abstract

Approaches to digitizing ornamental plants encompass morphological modeling, plant data collection, and the documentation of artisans and their knowledge. However, these approaches have not yet been integrated into a unified information framework for Vietnam’s artistic yellow mai trees (Ochna integerrima). This qualitative study combines secondary data analysis with a comparative synthesis of nine purposively selected studies on bonsai, three-dimensional plant modeling, heritage landscapes, artisan knowledge, and yellow mai trees. The selected studies were analyzed according to five criteria: research subject, method or technology, data outputs, purpose, and limitations or implementation requirements. The findings identify three main categories of information relevant to the digitization of artistic yellow mai trees: morphological and physical characteristics; care practices and tree condition; and information about artisans and their knowledge. Accordingly, the study proposes a digital documentation framework comprising tree records, care records, and artisan knowledge records. The findings provide a foundation for identifying information to be digitized and for gradually developing digital records of artistic yellow mai trees under practical conditions in Vietnam.
