Abstract

Throughout the history of Vietnamese thought, the close relationship between Buddhism and the nation has transcended the boundaries of a purely religious phenomenon to become an enduring feature of national development. This article systematizes the humanistic and progressive values of Buddhist philosophy, particularly the Six Principles of Harmony and Dependent Origination, through the lens of dialectical materialism. It thereby clarifies the organic relationship between religious faith and patriotism. A proper understanding of the idea of harmony provides a scientific basis for affirming that Buddhism constitutes an integral component of the unified yet diverse culture of Vietnam’s multiethnic community.
