Abstract

The widespread adoption of digital technologies and artificial intelligence (AI) is accelerating workflows in the design industry while simultaneously eroding the depth of visual thinking. Commercial pressures and tight deadlines often lead designers to overlook the essential processes of researching and internalizing foundational artistic values. This article re-examines the fundamental role of traditional fine arts in developing designers’ visual thinking and professional skills. Drawing on a literature review, morphological analysis, and empirical research, the study demonstrates that traditional fine arts not only provide fundamental principles of composition, color, and lighting but also constitute a vital cultural resource that fosters originality in contemporary design. Accordingly, the article proposes several approaches to integrating heritage values with technology-based design practices.
