Abstract

Encyclopedic works aim to provide comprehensive, systematic, and accurate accounts of fundamental knowledge about Vietnam and the wider world, covering countries, peoples, history, society, culture, and other domains. Rapid advances in artificial intelligence (AI) and large language models are transforming the methods and practices used to compile these works. This article examines the changing role of compilers, from manually compiling content to guiding the compilation process and verifying and evaluating knowledge. It also identifies challenges related to academic integrity and AI hallucinations in contemporary encyclopedic compilation. On this basis, the article proposes measures to safeguard the role of human compilers in AI-assisted compilation.

Keywords: Artificial intelligence (AI), compilers, encyclopedias, human roles.
