Abstract
This article examines the role and political fortitude of Comrade Nguyen Van Yen (1911–1941) in the Nam Ky revolutionary movement between 1930 and 1941. Employing historical and logical methods and drawing on local Party historical records and eyewitness memoirs, the study highlights his principal contributions in three areas: restoring and expanding the Party’s grassroots network in Duc Hoa and the Gia Dinh interprovincial region during the revolutionary downturn of 1932–1935; maintaining his integrity as a communist while imprisoned by the French colonial authorities; and demonstrating organizational and operational leadership during the 1940 Nam Ky Uprising, most notably in the Giong Cam ambush. The findings clarify Nguyen Van Yen’s contributions to the struggle for national liberation and provide additional historical evidence for research on the Nam Ky Party organization before 1945.
