Abstract
This article applies the dialectical relationship between matter and consciousness in Marxist–Leninist philosophy to examine trade union activities at Ho Chi Minh City University of Education. Drawing on the principle that matter determines consciousness while consciousness influences material conditions through human practice, the study emphasizes the need to respect objective conditions and promote subjective initiative. An analysis of the 2025–2026 academic year indicates that the University’s Trade Union addressed actual conditions and members’ needs in performing its representative, welfare, and rights-protection functions. However, limitations remain in staff capacity, organizational initiative, and effectiveness assessment. The article therefore proposes strengthening trade union staff capacity, enhancing legal education, identifying members’ needs, encouraging their participation, and using practical outcomes to improve trade union activities.
