Abstract

Vocabulary retention is an essential part of foreign language learning, especially for non-English-major students who often struggle with daily vocabulary acquisition, which may hinder their ability to apply vocabulary across English language skills. This paper aims to improve vocabulary retention through the application of lexical- semantic relations among non-English-major students at Hanoi Open University. A mixed-methods approach was employed through pedagogical interventions with 60 business administration students. The findings indicate that applying lexical-semantic relations is an effective tool for helping students memorize vocabulary and build confidence in communication. The study is expected to contribute to improving teaching methods for both teachers and students, particularly non-English-major students at Hanoi Open University.
