Abstract

Outward foreign investment (OFI) has become an important component of the global economy. The experiences of multinational and transnational corporations in expanding their operational scale, broadening the scope of activities, and investing abroad have demonstrated the significant role of OFI in promoting economic development, strengthening the international position of investing countries, and generating benefits for host countries. As an integral part of economic activities, OFI requires an appropriate legal framework to regulate and guide its development. In Vietnam, the legal framework governing OFI has been promulgated, amended, and supplemented through several stages of development, contributing to the facilitation and promotion of OFI activities. This article examines the concept of OFI, the factors influencing OFI activities, their role in economic development, and the evolution of Vietnam’s legal framework governing OFI.
