Abstract

This paper presents findings on the psychological preparation of 2–3-year-old children entering preschool for the first time in Ho Chi Minh City. Using a mixed-methods design, the study involved 230 participants, including parents, teachers, and administrators from nine preschools across three new administrative areas. Results revealed limited readiness: only 22% of schools organized a “familiarization week” and 28% of parents engaged in emotional preparation. Regression analysis identified three key predictors of children’s adaptation: family emotional preparation (r = 0.62), parent–teacher collaboration (r = 0.58), and a friendly classroom environment (r = 0.55). This paper proposes a two-way Family–School collaboration model with three pillars: emotional and routine preparation at home, soft transition at school, and a 14-day feedback mechanism. Findings contribute to the theoretical and practical foundation for supporting early childhood transitions in Vietnam.
