Abstract

Taking statements is a legally prescribed investigative activity used by investigative authorities to collect information and evidence for clarifying criminal cases. Its effectiveness is influenced by various factors, particularly the psychological characteristics of the person providing the statement. These characteristics vary according to the case and the individual involved. Victims of human trafficking, in particular, often exhibit distinctive psychological responses resulting from their experiences. Therefore, to obtain reliable statements that meet evidentiary requirements, investigators must understand victims’ psychological characteristics and adopt appropriate interviewing approaches.
