Abstract
This study examines the relationship between the psychological phenomenon of FOMO (Fear of Missing Out) and the career choice tendencies of high school students in Lai Châu province within the digital society. Data from 278 students (grades 10–12) were collected through an online survey and analyzed using descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation, and linear regression. Results indicate a significant positive correlation between FOMO and career choices influenced by social media, and a negative correlation with choices based on personal interests. Regression analysis shows that FOMO is a strong predictor, explaining 28.5% of the variance in social influence on career decisions, while parents’ education level is negatively associated with this trend. Differences in FOMO levels were found across gender, grade, and locality, with higher levels among female and urban students. The study recommends integrating digital psychology education into career counseling to help students manage FOMO and make career choices aligned with their abilities and values in the digital era.
