Abstract
The use of the first language (L1) in the teaching of English grammar has attracted considerable attention in the field of language education. This article reviews and analyzes major perspectives on the use of L1 in English grammar instruction, highlighting its benefits, limitations, and principles for effective classroom use. Based on previous studies, the article argues that the appropriate use of L1 can facilitate learners’ understanding of grammatical concepts, enhance the effectiveness of grammar teaching, and contribute to a more supportive learning environment.
