Abstract

Creative storytelling skills play an important role in fostering language development, thinking abilities, imagination, emotional expression, and communication competence in preschool children, especially those aged 5–6, a crucial stage in preparing for primary education. Storytelling not only helps children engage with literary content but also supports flexible thinking, creativity, and proactive communication. However, in current preschool practice, children’s storytelling remains largely reproductive, with limited opportunities for originality; it often depends heavily on teachers’ guidance, and organizational formats are not sufficiently diverse. Drawing on theoretical perspectives on language development and storytelling in early childhood education, this article clarifies the theoretical foundations for developing creative storytelling skills in preschool children aged 5–6 and proposes pedagogical measures to enhance these skills, thereby improving the quality of storytelling activities in contemporary preschool education.
