Abstract

Automated Writing Evaluation (AWE) is an emerging technology being increasingly applied in EFL writing instruction for non-English-major students. This paper reviews the theoretical foundations of AWE application in writing instruction, including effective feedback models, types of corrective feedback, several learner- and technology-related theories, and prompt engineering principles for designing LLM-based AWE tools. On this basis, this paper offers pedagogical suggestions for implementing AWE that suit A2-level students in Vietnamese higher education.
