Abstract

This study reviews the theoretical and practical foundations of interventions designed to develop communication skills in children with autism spectrum disorder from a social work perspective. Based on document analysis, the findings indicate a positive shift in intervention goals from mechanical response training toward fostering reciprocal social interaction. However, implementation in non-public facilities in Vietnam continues to face challenges related to staff capacity, the absence of standardized intervention procedures, and fragmented multidisciplinary coordination. The article proposes professionalizing support processes for children with autism spectrum disorder, integrating augmentative and alternative communication tools, and improving policy mechanisms. It also highlights the role of the ecological approach in building a sustainable support network for social inclusion.
