Abstract

In the primary school program, problems concerned with perimeter and area of shapes play a very important role. When solving these problems, students must know how to apply a lot of knowledge and understanding, such as: how to solve typical problems in mathematics; arithmetic operations on natural numbers, fractions, and measurements of quantities; how to calculate the value of common "quantities" in real life; how to use Vietnamese to present and express, etc. Not only that, the knowledge related to the perimeter and area of shapes is applied a lot in real life. In order for students to learn better and know how to put the knowledge of the lessons into practice, they first need to be equipped and trained in solving problems of perimeter and area of shapes. The main aim of this paper is to present and use the typical problems of "increasing and decreasing the perimeter or area of the shapes" to improve the problem-solving skills of primary students.
