Abstract

This study examines the development of short-paragraph writing skills among second-grade Khmer students in Vietnamese language classes at primary schools in Long Duc Ward, Vinh Long Province. Participants included 44 teachers, 26 school administrators, and 90 Khmer students. Data were collected through questionnaires, interviews, and observations and analyzed using SPSS 27.0 and descriptive statistics. The findings show that teachers have paid attention to developing writing skills and identified fundamental instructional objectives, while students have initially met several requirements for short-paragraph writing. However, students continue to experience difficulties in generating ideas, selecting appropriate words, connecting sentences, and expressing ideas coherently. These findings provide an empirical basis for proposing measures suited to the linguistic characteristics of Khmer students.
