Abstract
This article presents the results of a survey on the use of practical exercises in teaching the Mechanics section of Grade 10 Physics at high schools in Vinh Long Province. The research methods included questionnaires administered to 50 teachers and 200 students, in-depth interviews, and document analysis. The findings reveal that only 20% of teachers frequently used practical exercises, while 70% of students considered Physics exercises to have little relevance to real-life contexts. The main causes identified include the lack of a systematic set of practical exercises, time and curriculum pressures, limited facilities, and insufficient teacher capacity. Based on these findings, four improvement measures are proposed: developing model systems of practical exercises, innovating teaching methods, enhancing teacher professional development, and improving educational facilities. These measures contribute to fostering students’ problem-solving competence in line with the 2018 General Education Program.
