Abstract
Subtle nonverbal signals can help reveal emotions that may remain concealed during conventional social interactions. The ability to interpret such signals is important in both business negotiations and interpersonal relationships. In American culture, as in many cultures worldwide, the eyes are considered a central means of nonverbal communication and are often described as the “windows to the soul,” reflecting qualities such as honesty and confidence. This article examines the communicative significance of conscious and unconscious eye responses. Understanding eye signals can help individuals recognize inconsistencies between spoken words and underlying emotions, communicate more effectively in social relationships, and gain useful insights during business negotiations.
