Abstract

This study examines the potential of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) for designing simulation scenarios in social work practice education. Through the analysis and synthesis of relevant literature and the integration of three theoretical approaches, it proposes a five-step process extending from the identification of learning objectives to the evaluation and refinement of simulation scenarios. The process is illustrated through a hypothetical school social work case and accompanied by six groups of criteria for assessing students’ practice competencies. The study emphasizes the importance of professional oversight, ethical safeguards, and information confidentiality when using GenAI. Further empirical research is needed to evaluate the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed process.
