Abstract
This article clarifies the concepts of self-directed learning and self-directed foreign language learning competence and examines the potential of artificial intelligence (AI) to support students’ autonomous language learning. The findings indicate that AI can personalize learning content and pathways, provide timely feedback, increase opportunities for practice, and expand environments for foreign language communication. On this basis, the article proposes several solutions for students at the Academy of Public Administration and Governance. These solutions focus on developing learning motivation, effective self-study habits and methods, using AI as a supportive tool, strengthening lecturers’ guidance, and improving assessment practices.
