Abstract

Vietnamese vocabulary is a distinctive feature of the Vietnamese language and plays an important role in Chinese vocabulary learning among Vietnamese learners. Based on a review of related studies, this paper clarifies the role of Sino-Vietnamese vocabulary in helping learners recognize new words, infer meanings, memorize vocabulary, and expand their lexical knowledge. However, the similarities between Sino-Vietnamese vocabulary and Modern Chinese lexical items may also cause negative transfer, leading to errors in meaning and word usage. On this basis, the paper proposes several directions for future research and pedagogical applications in Chinese vocabulary teaching for Vietnamese learners.
