Abstract

Vietnam’s 2018 General Education Curriculum emphasizes learner-centered education and the development of students’ qualities and competencies. Among these, self-directed learning is essential for adapting to social change and pursuing lifelong learning. This study investigates the integration of mobile learning into Grade 10 Geography instruction to foster students’ self-directed learning competence. Data were collected from 200 Grade 10 students at three schools in Long Thanh commune and Duyen Hai ward, Vinh Long province, and 50 secondary school teachers from within and outside the province in the Mekong Delta. A mixed-methods approach was employed to examine current practices and assess the effects of eight proposed pedagogical measures. An experiment involving 74 students at Long Thanh Secondary and High School provided preliminary evidence that these measures positively supported the development of self-directed learning competence in a mobile learning environment.
