Abstract

As English plays an increasingly important role in education and international integration in Vietnam, teaching approaches that can enhance learner engagement, reduce anxiety, and facilitate language acquisition are attracting growing attention. Drawing on an analysis and synthesis of the literature, this paper clarifies the fundamental characteristics of Suggestopedia, discusses several issues in English language teaching in Vietnam, and examines the potential and limitations of applying this method. It argues that Suggestopedia is unlikely to be implemented in its original form in mainstream classrooms because of constraints related to class size, lesson duration, facilities, examination objectives, and teacher training requirements. Nevertheless, selected elements, such as reducing psychological pressure, incorporating art and role-play, fostering a positive classroom atmosphere, and correcting errors gently, can be selectively integrated to support foreign language learning.
