Abstract
Traditional handicrafts are an important component of intangible cultural heritage, preserving indigenous knowledge, artisanal skills, and the cultural identity of local communities. Under the impacts of industrialization and the market economy, many traditional handicrafts in Khanh Hoa Province are facing the risk of decline, requiring appropriate management solutions. Drawing on the theories of intangible cultural heritage, cultural management, and the stakeholder approach, this article analyzes the safeguarding and promotion of four representative traditional handicrafts in the province based on a survey of 110 respondents and in-depth interviews with 20 participants. The findings show that the value of these handicrafts lies not only in livelihoods but also in preserving traditional knowledge, artisanal skills, and local cultural identity. However, safeguarding efforts remain limited due to constraints in resources, knowledge transmission, coordination mechanisms, and market linkages. Based on these findings, the article proposes measures to improve the effectiveness of cultural management, contributing to the safeguarding of cultural heritage and the sustainable development of traditional handicrafts in Khanh Hoa Province.
