Abstract

In the context of digital transformation and population ageing, older adults’ access to and use of social media have attracted increasing attention. Domestic and international studies indicate that the Internet and social media can strengthen social connections, reduce loneliness, improve psychosocial well-being, and enhance quality of life among older adults. However, technology adoption remains constrained by limited digital skills, economic conditions, health-related difficulties, and online safety risks. Despite these barriers, older adults are becoming increasingly active in using digital platforms for communication, information seeking, and entertainment. These findings highlight the need to improve digital literacy, strengthen online safety, and develop age-friendly platforms to promote digital inclusion and enhance older adults’ quality of life.
