Abstract

In the context of a rapidly modernizing society, Vietnamese education has been undergoing positive changes to meet the demands of modernization and international integration. One key aspect of this reform is the development of learners' competencies. In particular, reading comprehension competence in Literature plays a crucial role. Accordingly, the teaching and learning process not only needs to ensure that students can grasp the knowledge content but also that they can apply the knowledge and skills they have learned to real-world situations. Therefore, teachers need to be flexible, balanced, and adaptable, using appropriate teaching methods, activities, and assessment techniques. Thus, within the scope of this article, the author proposes the development of a set for assessing the reading comprehension of free verse poetry for 8th-grade students, hoping to contribute a small part to improving the quality of teaching the Literature subject in lower secondary schools in general, and teaching free verse poetry to 8th-grade students in particular.
